About this Going Pro Workshop
Would you like to start performing and are interested in making your first act? Or are your current performances not getting the reaction from the audience that you want them to? In this workshop we’ll explore the relationship between the audience and the physical performer, and how you can activate that relationship to kick your act into high gear. We’ll discuss what the audience wants from you, how to get the reaction you want from your skills, and how to elicit the results you want from your hard work. We will share our experience, hints, and tools with you so that your act stands out in exactly the way you want it to.

Prerequisites:
This workshop is perfect for folks who have never made an act before and haven’t even started the process, and also for folks with existing acts that they want to make more effective. This workshop is also useful for circus educators and choreographers.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Elsie Smith is a founder of NECCA and Nimble Arts. Together with her twin sister, Serenity, she is an award-winning aerialist who has performed for Cirque du Soleil, the International Festival de Circo (Spain), and the China Wuqiau International Circus Festival. Elsie has taught and choreographed for over 30 years, including founding the longest-running professional circus training program in the United States. She is a founding member of the American Circus Educators Association’s Safety Committee and the American Circus Alliance. In 2021 and 2022, she served as a grant review panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and has been a judge for VivaFest and other competitions. She has a passion for introducing new circus artists to the world of professional performing.
