About this Going Pro Workshop
You’re ready to put a circus act together! Everyone begins their creation differently, but many people let music guide them. How do you search for music? What do you do when you find something that is almost right, but not quite? How do you find music that will move your audience the way you want them to be moved? And once you find your music, how do you make the best of every note? Act creation is not an easy journey, but we will share our expertise with you to make it more enjoyable and more impactful. You’ll leave this workshop with tools for considering how music works for you and your audience, finding your music, skills for making your rehearsals effective and efficient, and ways to use music to create the act you’ve always dreamed of.

Prerequisites:
This workshop is perfect for folks who have never made an act before and haven’t even started the process, and also for folks with existing acts that they want to make more effective. This workshop is also useful for circus educators and choreographers.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Elsie Smith is a founder of NECCA and Nimble Arts. Together with her twin sister, Serenity, she is an award-winning aerialist who has performed for Cirque du Soleil, the International Festival de Circo (Spain), and the China Wuqiau International Circus Festival. Elsie has taught and choreographed for over 30 years, including founding the longest-running professional circus training program in the United States. She is a founding member of the American Circus Educators Association’s Safety Committee and the American Circus Alliance. In 2021 and 2022, she served as a grant review panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and has been a judge for VivaFest and other competitions. She has a passion for introducing new circus artists to the world of professional performing.
