Weekend Immersion: Straps

With Julian McTaggart

Take a deep dive into the fundamental shapes and pathways of straps and straps conditioning. We’ll look at twisting, flares, c-shaping, beats and leg twisting, with a focus on learning the essential movements that allow us to approach individual skills. Through the weekends we’ll look at the basic components of more advanced skills, so we can better understand and master them.

Prerequisites

Students should have a regular practice on straps (skills and or conditioning) and no current shoulder injuries. Students must be able to do 2 pull ups (from straight arm hang to chin above hands without a swing), 3 leg lifts, and 1 straight arm skin the cat.

About the instructor

Julian McTaggart is a working circus artist and acrobat. He graduated NECCA’s progressional program in 2021, and since then he has performed in over 15 countries, as a straps and duo artist, hand to hand and acrobatic flyer, and character actor. He has also developed his own artistic work, which was brought to the VIVA Festival, earning Judges Choice awards, and the Cirque du Soleil Prize. As a coach, Julian coaching is technically focused, with emphasis on pathways, timing, and shapes and positioning to better understand complex skills in a mechanically efficient way. He hopes to encourage more people to study straps, whether you use it as a conditioning tool, or letting it become your overall lifestyle.
