The Art of Mallakhamb

With Sanket Parab

Rope Mallakhamb is an ancient Indian sport that blends gymnastics, yoga, and aerial acrobatics, challenging both strength and agility. Originally developed as a training practice for wrestlers and warriors, it has evolved into a breathtaking movement art that is now gaining global recognition. Rope Mallakhamb was first introduced to the circus industry in the shows The India by Franco Dragone and Mystic India by Aatma Performing Arts (New Jersey), showcasing its unique blend of dynamic movement and control.

In this workshop, students will learn acrobatics that transition from yoga poses into drops and more dynamic movements on a thin rope, developing core strength, flexibility, and coordination. The practice demands exceptional balance, endurance, and focus, making it an excellent foundation for circus arts, aerial disciplines, gymnastics, and dance.

Beyond its physical benefits, Rope Mallakhamb cultivates mental focus, discipline, and resilience, encouraging practitioners to push their limits while developing a deep connection with movement and balance. To learn more about Mallakhamb in the USA, visit the Mallakhamb Federation USA website.
